Attitude is Everything — The Diligent and Positive Chao Kuan-Yuan

Working and Studying: A Relentless Pursuit of Growth
Chao Kuan-Yuan is someone full of ideas and insights about life—rarely is there a problem that stumps him. Whenever I face a challenge, he's always ready with a variety of suggestions. To me, he’s not just a classmate, but an indispensable friend.
Perhaps it’s his experience in society, or maybe it’s his habit of reading that gives him such a rich perspective. Outside of class, he is either studying or reading. As his roommate, watching him dedicate himself so seriously often leaves me feeling both inspired and humbled. Despite a heavy academic workload, Kuan-Yuan also works part-time at the department office, where his efficiency and reliability have made him a valuable assistant to the teaching staff.
Warm-Hearted and a Natural Leader
In class, whenever a teacher needs help, Kuan-Yuan is always the first to step forward. His willingness to assist feels like a warm presence that brings comfort to those around him. Whether it’s academic or personal matters, many students seek him out for advice. His clear thinking and articulate communication often help solve others’ problems—earning him a reputation as a respected peer and a leader in the making.
Sharp Observation and Fearless Curiosity
During a department-organized field trip to the National Center for Traditional Arts, Kuan-Yuan's keen eye caught something others missed. Inside the Wen Chang Temple, he noticed four scissors placed at the altar and immediately asked our guide about their significance. His attentiveness was praised by the faculty and staff.
In a drafting class, he once raised a thoughtful question about orthographic projections. The discussion that followed with the instructor led him to borrow additional teaching materials for further study—an example of how student initiative and teacher guidance can complement one another. It’s moments like these that show Kuan-Yuan’s willingness to ask meaningful questions and pursue deeper understanding.
A Positive Attitude That Drives Excellence
We often hear that success is a formula of hard work and skill—but above all, it’s about attitude. For Kuan-Yuan, whose outlook has always been positive and proactive, this is a given. Not only does he apply this belief in his studies, but also in sports. In a recent mixed doubles badminton tournament held on campus, he won second place. Humbly, he attributed his achievement to consistent practice and shared, “Diligence is my only winning formula.”
In the end, what truly matters is applying what we've learned—putting knowledge into action in real life. We should all take a page from Kuan-Yuan’s book: “Learn by doing, and do while learning.” That’s how we fulfill the expectations our university has for us.
