The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world's largest and most influential design competitions. Its categories include product design, communication design, and design concept. It attracts more than 10,000 entries from more than 60 countries every year and is a major event that the global design community attaches great importance to. Xu Tingwei, a graduate of our school's Department of Industrial Media this year, participated in the competition with his graduation project "Picking Cows", which combined the ideas of Zen Buddhism and won recognition in the Communication Design Award in the Animation and Video category.<Picking Cows> was jointly instructed by four teachers from our school, namely Guo Wenxin, Luo Yiling, Luo Guangzhi and Zhang Weichang. Student Xu Tingwei pointed out that the Ten Oxen Picture is a key diagram for Zen Buddhist practice, which explains the ten mental journeys of self-seeking in life. Pick up the cow, rediscover the classics, regain your true self, break away from the traditional framework, reinterpret it in a modern style, and use vision to lead the viewer into the Zen state it implies.
Mr. Luo Guangzhi, one of the instructors, pointed out that he was first grateful for the judges' recognition, the students' efforts and the school's support. In the past, the Department of Media Production encouraged students to combine Buddhist concepts in their creations during special production meetings. The past four years of influence have included participating in the Underground Palace Cultural and Creative Competition and related religious design competitions. In addition, the theme of this year's graduation exhibition is "Ten Directions, One Thought". We hope that students can use their design expertise to combine it with the good intentions of Buddhism to let everyone know. This design has been seen again, which means that the uniqueness of the direction has been recognized. We also hope that such good intentions will continue to circulate!
President Ho Cheuk-fei said that the Department of Industrial Media has won numerous awards in various competitions over the years. In the past, he hoped that Fo Guang University could be closely connected with Fo Guang Shan. After taking office, he also took "one department for professional studies, one mountain for service" as one of the directions of school management, combining Buddhist concepts with art, creation and life, so that more people can know about Buddhism. Director Zhang Zhisheng of the Department of Industrial Media said that the Department of Industrial Media of our school has won the German Red Dot Award for many years. In addition to thanking the special instructors for their hard work, he also affirmed the students' persistence in creation. In addition to the Red Dot, they have also been recognized in other important awards. He also thanked the judges for their favor for our school.
