The "Encountering the Power of Life" video and text creation competition, organized by the ALS Association and guided by the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, concluded its months-long submission and professional judging process with an awards ceremony held today (13th) at the Howard International School of Culture and Education, Room F303. The competition encouraged young students to respond to life issues through video and text creation, attracting enthusiastic participation from high school, vocational school, and college students nationwide, resulting in over forty outstanding entries and fierce competition.
Students from the College of Applied Technology and Design at Fo Guang University demonstrated outstanding performance. Liu Yu-Chia, a master's student in the Department of Product and Media Design, won the highest honor in the video category—the Silver Award—for her animated work, "Starlight Together." Yang Chin-Jui, a senior student in the Department of Information Applications, also won an honorable mention in the writing category for her written work, showcasing the achievements of Fo Guang University students in combining professional skills with humanistic care.
Liu Yu-Chia stated that *Starlight Together* is a story about pursuit, vulnerability, and support, hoping to convey the belief that "as long as someone is willing to walk alongside you, the light will not disappear." Inspired by animals' instinct to seek light, he uses the penguin character to embark on a life journey, and includes seals and other animals in the story to symbolize the power of mutual support in adversity. The work aims to bring viewers not only an understanding of illness, but also a sense of companionship and hope.
Yang Jinrui shared that although he studies Information Applications, he has loved writing since childhood and continues to create novels in his spare time. This award is an important affirmation for him. This work reinterprets the meaning of death and companionship with delicate strokes, depicting the emotional connection on the last journey of life, making "companionship" a powerful action in the face of loss.
Guo Long, a professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Fo Guang University, also attended the award ceremony. He said that encouraging students to participate in such competitions not only allows them to combine classroom learning with practical creation, but also enables them to care about social issues through images and words, deepening their understanding of the value of life. It is a very valuable learning process.
