Fo Guang University Department of Product and Media Design — 13th Annual Graduation Exhibition is Coming Soon!
Theme: "Hundred Worlds, Thousand Reflections"
The theme "Hundred Worlds, Thousand Reflections" conveys the idea of approaching design challenges from diverse and interconnected perspectives. It encourages us to maintain creativity and an open mindset when facing problems. This year, our senior students participated in the Young Pin Design Award, organized by the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and executed by the Taiwan Design Research Institute. We are proud to announce that our department has earned one project selected for final judging and four projects nominated for the Sponsored Special Award. Additionally, our students won a Silver Award in the Global Bicycle Design Competition, hosted by IDBC.
President He Zhuo-Fei of Fo Guang University commended the students for their excellence and dedication, and praised the professional guidance of the faculty. He expressed hope that the Department of Product and Media Design would continue to achieve outstanding results in the final competition.
As society evolves and educational philosophies are updated, we are reminded that the essence of things is ever-changing and sometimes even void. This mindset inspires designers to remain open and to seek inspiration and innovation from countless possibilities—an idea that lies at the heart of this year’s theme, "Hundred Worlds, Thousand Reflections."
This year's graduation projects were developed under the collaborative guidance of our expert faculty. Professor Lin Chih-Kuan was responsible for the overall planning and execution of the exhibition, as well as providing guidance on product and transportation design. Professor Shen Kai-Hsuan assisted in organizing the exhibition and mentoring media design. Professor Li Hong-Ru supported exhibition space planning, product innovation, and shared industry experience. Together, these three professors guided a total of 57 students through four years of dedicated learning and engagement with various reviews and professional evaluations, culminating in impressive achievements.
The exhibited works span a wide range of interdisciplinary themes, including forward-looking products, practical and innovative lifestyle vehicles, creative media, fashion crafts, furniture, and Buddhist cultural and creative goods. The department’s teaching approach is personalized and interest-oriented, integrating students’ strengths and passions to foster Fo Guang's unique design thinking model—aimed at nurturing both creativity and confidence.
The Young Pin Design Award is the official award of the national New Generation Design Exhibition, with submissions from 116 departments across 55 universities in Taiwan, totaling nearly 4,974 entries. Our department achieved exceptional results, with one project reaching the final round in the product design category, and three others earning nominations in the Sponsored Special Award categories—two in product design and one in craft design—demonstrating the strong creative and design capabilities of our students.
Notably, the project “Lightweight Rescue Platform” designed by Lin Hong-Ru made it to the final judging round of the 2023 Young Pin Design Award and was also shortlisted for the Red Dot Design Award. In addition, two projects were nominated for the Sponsored Special Award in the product design category: “Automatic Drain Cleaner” designed by Chen Zong-Chen, aimed at improving accessibility for the disabled, and “Electric Axle-Driven Shared Bicycle” co-designed by Lin Hong-Ru and Xue Li-Yang. Furthermore, “Chrono Sequence”, a craft design by Yu Ting-Yi, also received recognition and nomination under the Sponsored Special Award category. Another notable project, “DUAL C Eco-Friendly Balance E-Bike” designed by Jiang Hao-Zhen and Jiang Mei, developed for growing children, was highly praised by the judges.
The Fo Guang University Department of Product and Media Design’s Class of 2020 graduation exhibition, titled “Hundred Worlds, Thousand Reflections,” will open on Wednesday, May 15, at the first floor of the Yunwu Building on campus. Following that, the exhibition will move to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 2, for the 2024 New Generation Design Exhibition, running from May 24 (Friday) to May 27 (Monday). It promises to be an exciting showcase—everyone is warmly invited to visit, support, and offer their valuable guidance.
