The seventh graduation design exhibition of the Department of Product and Media Design of Fo Guang University will be themed "No End", symbolizing that design is like the continuous cycle of all things in the universe. The process of creation from scratch is a new beginning each time, and experience and knowledge are constantly accumulated in the cycle. President Yang Zhaoxiang said that the theme of this year's Industrial Media Department graduation exhibition is very interesting. When the three characters "未末了" are viewed individually, it is easy to understand the meaning of the characters themselves; but when viewed together, they transcend the individual meanings and are thought-provoking; then, the visual imagery of the theme makes people fall into a cycle of "未" and "末". Because the strokes are connected together, it seems like "endless life" and "difficult to distinguish beginning from end."These layers of transitions and entanglements in creative concepts make people feel that the thinking of the graduating students in the Department of Industrial Media is becoming more and more profound, and their ability in interpretation and design is becoming more and more powerful.
The exhibited works are diverse and of international standard, five of which were shortlisted for the 2018 Red Dot Design Award. The "Mars Mission" designed by Chang Chun-yao and Hsu Chun-xiang is based on the concept that Hawking once predicted that Mars would be the next target planet for human migration. NASA is also actively promoting the Mars project. The concept of this vehicle has two forms, transportation and mobility. It uses in-wheel motors as the main power source, providing Mars travelers with both mobility and transportation functions. The "Ditch Cleaning" designed by Li Bikuan and Luo Chenwei aims to improve the occupational injuries suffered by cleaning staff when cleaning ditches. By effectively intercepting the garbage in the gutter, the original repeated cleaning action is changed to a one-time action, and the gutter cover structure is conducive to concentrating the garbage to the following devices.The "Double Face" designed by Song Shanghe was shortlisted for two projects. In order to give the chair two different functions, the chair can be flipped to have two modes: sitting chair and reclining chair. When you are tired from work and want to take a break, you can flip it into a reclining chair, and it can be flipped and transformed according to the needs of the user. The armrest part is a flippable handle to serve as a support for the back of the chair, making DOUBLE FACE safer and easier to operate. The "S-fitness Intelligent Fitness Robot" designed by Qiu Shuting and Li Yixuan is aimed at mature female office workers who are unable to go out for exercise regularly. The core theme of the design is home exercise. Through the intelligent robot, the machine plans and guides them to safe postures while they exercise at home.
Department Head Dr. Zhang Zhisheng said that students have a solid theoretical foundation and proficient practical skills through the education of the Department of Industrial Media at Foshan University, which emphasizes both theory and practice, especially the mentor-apprentice group courses that adopt the teaching methods of "co-teaching" and "individual guidance". Class after class of students have grown from novices to experienced designers; from entry level design to the palace of creation, they have participated in hundreds of competitions and won numerous awards. Their performance in the design community has long been obvious to all. The Department of Industrial Media at Fo Guang University has become a new cradle for cultivating design talents.
The "Not Yet Ending" graduation design exhibition will be held on the first floor of the Yunwu Building of Fo Guang University from April 23 to 25, and the opening ceremony will be held at 10:30 am on April 23 (Monday). It will also move to Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 to participate in the "2018 Next Generation Design Exhibition" from May 25th to 28th. All are welcome to visit.
